Often social programs at schools fail because they are not implemented fully or over a long enough period. One school in Philadelphia attributes their success in decreasing violence to having a long-term principal, a stable teaching force, and formal training in anti-violence programs.

But the program doesn't just stop there; the program also includes academic and leadership development.

Uganda’s education ministry requires all schools to have incinerators to burn used sanitary pads. Lack of funding limits schools’ ability to comply. Even when incinerators exist, girls don’t necessarily use them. The Romani Education Fund in Slovakia is helping children from the Roma community, which has a history of social and economic disadvantages as well as being subject to ethnic discrimination, overcome challenges to finish high school and pursue higher education. The REF works by providing qualifying students with a stipend to pay for educational supplies, as well as providing school guidance and personal mentorship to help both students and parents overcome the social hurdles that impede the student's desire or ability to fulfill their potential.

Qrate provides menstruation workshops at schools to teach young people about their bodies, good menstruation hygiene, and - importantly - to decrease the stigma, shame, and embarrassment associated with periods. The group presents to both girls and boys in order to address the health of non-binary, transgender, and intersex people who may menstruate, and to engage boys in fighting the stigma. In addition to providing the necessary products, the workshops use fun, child-friendly, lessons. The interactive activities and exercises have been more impactful than simply having someone lecture to students.

The Save the Boys Initiative provides counseling, group and family therapy, programming around mentorship and leadership, and other forms of assistance for boys who have experienced sexual abuse.
