    High school students from several schools got hands-on construction experience by building tiny homes that are then sold at under-market prices to people needing housing. The training is provided to the students at Huot Technical Education Center, with mentoring from volunteers from the building trades. Four houses have been built and delivered so far in the program, which was slowed but not stopped by pandemic restrictions.

Umoja Health’s pop-up clinics vaccinated up to 80% of residents living in San Francisco’s most vulnerable areas. Del Paso Heights clinic had such a huge demand for vaccines that the waiting list swelled to 4,000 people at one point. The Greater Sacramento Urban League ran free pop-up vaccine clinics while also canvassing neighborhoods to talk with residents about getting vaccinated.

    Several years ago, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department created a form of insurance as a way to raise money for search and rescue operations for people hiking in the mountains. These voluntary insurance cards cost $25 per person and protect them from covering the costs of their rescues. In 2020, the state sold 7,752 cards, which generated over $200,000 of income for rescue missions. While the revenue can be inconsistent year to year, the cards can usually cover their costs.

Rubble Mountains was created specifically to do this. They've been able to restore four quarries, use materials to create public amenities, and diverting up to 50 tons of demolition waste from landfills.

    Black, urban farmers have formed a grassroots "ecosystem" to grow and distribute fresh, affordable produce in St. Louis neighborhoods where food insecurity and gun violence go hand in hand. Heru Urban Farming is a startup businesses and CSA growing vegetables in vacant lots that it then sells by subscription and gives away to families in need. Along with a new farmers market and a mobile produce vendor, the "food justice" activists and entrepreneurs are meeting a nutritional need where quality supermarkets don't exist and corner stores typically sell packaged, processed foods.
